En la ciudad de Loja, existe un rincón donde el diseño, la hospitalidad y el café se encuentran para crear una experiencia única: Alayah Coffee & Coworking. Detrás de este innovador espacio está Alejandra Cristina Román Álvarez, una arquitecta de 32 años nacida en Zaruma, provincia de El Oro, que ha convertido su sensibilidad estética en una vocación que va más allá de planos y estructuras.
Desde temprana edad, Alejandra sintió una conexión especial con los espacios y la forma en que estos influyen en nuestras emociones. Aunque en su entorno familiar no había arquitectos, sí creció entre personas creativas y detallistas que sembraron en ella el amor por el arte y la funcionalidad. Esa inquietud la llevó a estudiar Arquitectura en la Universidad Internacional del Ecuador y, más adelante, a viajar hasta Barcelona en 2022 para cursar una maestría en Gestión Integral de la Construcción, con especialidad en arquitectura de interiores para espacios públicos y privados.
Arquitectura que transforma vidas
Alejandra no solo diseña espacios bonitos; los concibe como entornos que mejoran la calidad de vida. “Lo que más disfruto es ver cómo los espacios que diseño impactan positivamente en las personas. Recuerdo una familia que lloró al ver su casa terminada, sintieron que al fin su hogar reflejaba quiénes eran. Eso me reafirmó que mi profesión va más allá de lo estético”, relata.
Su carrera la ha llevado a trabajar en el mercado inmobiliario de Barcelona y a asesorar de forma independiente proyectos de arquitectura e interiorismo. Cada obra, cada cliente, ha sido una oportunidad para reafirmar su compromiso con un diseño humano, cálido y funcional.
Alayah: cuando el diseño se sirve en taza
Su más reciente desafío —y también su mayor satisfacción— es Alayah Coffee & Coworking, un emprendimiento que nació del amor por la cocina y el deseo de ofrecer un espacio diferente en Loja. Diseñado por ella misma y gestionado junto a su esposo, Alayah es más que una cafetería: es un punto de encuentro donde el diseño dialoga con la gastronomía y el bienestar.
“Decidimos abrir incluso cuando no todo estaba listo. Cociné con lo que teníamos y atendimos con el corazón. La respuesta fue tan positiva que nos llenó de energía para seguir”, recuerda con emoción.
Retos, aprendizajes y sueños
No todo ha sido fácil. Alejandra reconoce que emprender ha sido una montaña rusa de emociones: desde retrasos en obras hasta desafíos logísticos. Pero cada obstáculo ha sido una lección que la ha hecho más fuerte y resiliente.
A futuro, se proyecta como docente universitaria para compartir su experiencia con las nuevas generaciones. También desea continuar ampliando y fortaleciendo su cafetería como un concepto integral donde el diseño y la calidez humana sean protagonistas.
Motivación con raíces profundas
Su motor es claro: “Dios es quien me guía y fortalece. Mi esposo camina a mi lado con amor y apoyo incondicional, y mis padres, con su ejemplo de esfuerzo, me inspiran a dar lo mejor de mí”.
